On Productivity

by sahilalvi on May.06, 2017, under Media

I have been saying for much of my professional life that, in the rapidly accelerating era of automation, it is incumbent on each of us participating in the knowledge economy to be emphasising the advantage of delivering high-quality, thoughtful and reliable outcomes over our time’s compulsive need to go fast nowhere by pursuing impossible deadlines to set workers up for mediocre, half-hearted, stress-inducing deliverables. We ought to stay actively vigilant to the need for an adrenaline rush that comes from being incessantly busy while generating little to no value (and sometimes negative value) to our lives, businesses, organisations and to the broader economy.
It is time that corporate leaders refocused the greatest resource in our world – which is human capital – to pursue quality over quantity, results over activity, impact over output and purpose over politics.
In essence, we need to move on from a production-oriented mentality to a productivity-oriented mindset.
